1.8.12 ... hollywood sign and beach scenes

yesterday was another glorious day, weather wise. we have been here for 5 weeks and, with all of our miles of driving around, had still not seen the hollywood sign so, after the daily house hunt, we googled the best spot to view the hollywood sign and had a wonderful time driving up to the look out point. wow. what a neighborhood.

love that sign.

and you can see the city, too.

we drove over to santa monica and took a short stroll on the beach during the last hour of daylight.

i love this shot.

mr. chippy is on the mend!!!! his little ears are perking up once more. this is the best thing that has happened to us. i know it is all uphill from here.

1.6.12 ... the portfolio drop off

yesterday was the big day. scout dropped off her portfolio.

it was a beautiful, exciting,, uplifting day for us. it made the many disappointments of this past month fade a bit and our perspective and faith are renewed.

who knows what will happen next, but one thing i do know is that scout compiled a remarkable portfolio and wrote a beautiful, entertaining artist statement. both genuine and from the heart. if anyone epitomizes walt's dream student, we can present her and with pride. hold good thoughts, dear friends & readers.

1.1.12 ... i did it. a.k.a : well, FINALLY!

happy 2012 everyone. this year my blog posts and creativity will take an even more eclectic turn. i have been tossing this idea around for a few months now and i have decided to go with it. i have brainstormed a list of headings and will use them as a guideline in no particular order. a serendipitous year. today's accomplishment: i gave scout a long overdue haircut. she is very happy with it. we were working on her portfolio for hours this evening and i am beat. that's all for now. maybe tomorrow i will share my topics list with you.

12.30.11 ... next to last day. oh. wow.

here is my creation for today. ev went to the post office and brought back this envelope which, as you can see, i repurposed and sent along. the hawaiian note pad page is at least 13 years old. one of my favorite ever friends gave it to me. it has a magnetic back so you can put it on your fridge. but i hate to use them because i don't want to deplete them. as i am in a hotel room with limited - to put it mildly - resources i gave in and used one, albeit chopped up. still fun, eh? recycling not only saves the earth, it adds character to life. be sure to check back in tomorrow night for the final post. i can't believe i am completing this challenge.

12.29.11 ... world's best pastrami

took the long way a couple of weeks ago and spied langer's restaurant and delicatessen. loved the look of it so we googled it and learned it has a history and rabid following so we promised scout we'd bring her there as part of her christmas present. we were going to go on christmas eve but the car overheated so we had to turn back. very similar to dorothy, toto, tin man, cowardly lion and scarecrow. but we made it on tuesday and it is no lie. this sandwich is beyond description.

i cannot believe we moved to a place where it is in relatively close proximity to us.

poor scout has another cold already. meanwhile, mr. chippy is showing some signs of improvement and we are thrilled. he has even made a few grumbly noises as he sleeps which is manna from heaven to us as this point. we have been worrying ourselves sick over him. but i think we are doing somethings right because he looks to be making a slow, but steady recovery from whatever caused his problems.

oh my golly this is the first time all year that i forgot to post at night! and here i took dozens of photos at the beach yesterday and was excited to have them for my post. blame it on ratatouille. we were watching it and i fell asleep. time is very strange when you are in a hotel between residences for over three weeks. we at dinner at 10 pm. yesterday morning the clerk wished me luck on my house hunting and i responded that i think i should be looking for a drug habit instead. at any rate, here are a few of my photos and i will post more this evening. maybe i will make one of those photo collages. evan and scout had fun burying their feet in the sand.

i love the composition and lighting of this photo.

12.25.11 ... christmas time is here, happiness and cheer

we had a lovely day today. it was wonderful taking a day off from searching for a home. we turned our hotel room into a peacefully festive environment. it was just right for us. here is one example of our creative gift wrapping/card making soiree last night. we took over the common room for our packaging blitz.

scout's brilliant packaging perfectly matched what was inside. i go through band aids like an elephant goes through peanuts. and now i shall do it in style.

last night's post included a night time photo of our little make do set up. here it is after we'd opened most of the gifts. we couldn't reach the tub with scout's miniature silver tree but we were thrilled to find mr. snowman and scout's purple strand of lights that is usually entwined in her headboard.

are you a fan of delicious flavors? and psych? we are. isn't scout clever with the pineapple present? and it smells great, too. we'll get ev working on cutting it up soon. that should be interesting given he'll only have plastic knives! i just told ev and he said: that's going to be exciting. indeed.

we had a yankee swap. our mission was to find two gifts valued under $5 for the swap. scout chose this one of mine first. it was calling to her since last night. can you guess what it holds? she was very pleased that she'd chosen it. not much of a hint. just a fact.

here you see all of our hard, but fun, work. these are our packages en toto last night out on the common room table before we gathered them up and brought them back to our room for mr. snowman to watch over all night. i hope your christmas or hanukkah was a happy one. can you believe that there are just six short days left for my daily creative posts before i reach my goal. wow. by the way, do not pay attention to the dates on the blog because it is still set for central time and i can't find the setting. but rest assured these are all posted before midnight here in sunny california.

we got our first mail at the post office (general delivery) and two out of the three were christmas cards! what? lovely. and it seems we are getting somewhere. we have a good lead on a place and ev got a call and an interview so that was cool. we met very nice people all day long. we even met a woman in the rest room who was enchanted by our discussion regarding being a gloomy gus. she'd never heard the expression and loved it. now if mr. chippy would feel better we'd be dancing a jig. he shows signs of mild improvement we think. holding good thoughts. hope your evening is lovely.

today i needed to prepare a package in a challenging way. i always make a little cardstock card for my magnets and attach them with a tape roll. being as we are living in a hotel and my magnets are in the storage unit, i had to figure out a way to pre- prepare the package here and retrieve the magnets and attach them at the storage barn. i was stumped for about a half a minute when i spied the stamp backing and then i knew i had the perfect carry all. the tape was safely held until i needed it. then it easily removed from the backing onto the card and i put it all together. i love the whole thing. hope your day was lovely.

i prepared another six packages for the mail today and should have taken some photos of my little creative touches but i was too rushed. but here is something you may recognize from former posts. my patchwork old chambray shirt which scout has taken a shine to and borrows on occasion. it seems like an allegory for our journey here. snippets of l a fabric are floating about around us. some brighter than others, some frayed, some colorful, some barely hanging on any longer. any day now they will all come together into a mosaic of practically perfect in every way patterns and we will begin our homestead phase. here's to a happy weekend for all of us.

today we had about a dozen or more packages to mail out. my orders since we left home have been adding up. so we went to the storage barn and rifled through my etsy tubs and located everything and got them ALL out this afternoon! scout had two as well. i made these two bookmarks for two of my orders. i think they came out quite sweet and hope the recipients will love them.

still no home but we forge ahead and had a nice day all the same. we can only control what we can control. hold good thoughts for us, please, dear friends.

i took this photo on saturday. we were in pasadena looking at a rental prospect and chanced upon an indian restaurant while walking to a salad place. we're so happy we decided to switch midstream. anyway, this general store is across the street and i love the look of it so i took a ton of photos hoping at least one would work. this is the only one that did. the traffic was crazy and the cars were constantly in my way. i did do a lot of creative things today as i am finally preparing all of my december sold orders for the post office. but it was raining and too dark to get photos of all my cleverly cute packages. oh well such is life on the road.

so today we got around to visiting patra's where jamie oliver and his food revolution filmed last year. dino is as lovely in person as he is on the small screen. we really enjoyed chatting with him. everyone working there is happy and friendly and the food is outstanding. here is scout's revolution burger.

first of all, i insisted scout get a photo of this adorable gate that was nearby the budget truck rental return building. and secondly, below you can see the fruits of evan's hard labor and how he managed to store and organize all of our belongings into the storage barn. now we are truly in l a ! :) these were taken yesterday morning.

this is so amazing. he did this in a matter of hours. crazy talk. now all we need is a place to live. keep those fingers crossed please.

we are taking photos on the road but are just too beat to import them tonight. but love this one taken on tuesday saying good bye to danny, rocker and abby.

today went much better than yesterday. evan listened to me and after ginny threw up again this morning in her crate, let her free. she's been happy as a skunk ever since. hooray for trucker cat ii. we had adorable lunch at a tiny mom and pop in a small texas town. now we are in ft stockton - also wonderful small town everything. we had the best burritos in years - maybe forever - tonight. and they were gigantic, $3 or $4 each and the service was amazing - all at closing time. unreal. so things are looking up a bit. rough patches here and there but mostly our usual happy traveler times. we truly are gypsies at heart i think. america is so beautiful and filled with so many lovely people. god bless you all.

11.28.11 ... some fun . top notch . culver good byes

only two more nights here in austin as our home. we had to stop at top notch one last time. this place was a beacon to us during our first six weeks here. the owners were as sweet as their fantastic food. it is under new ownership now. i hope it will still be here when we return as i am sure we will someday. here are two shots i took of scout with the iconic sign.

then we headed to culver's, which is another favorite. there aren't any in california so we will miss it, but not as much as we miss the people. here is scout with a little surprise going away gift that raul brought out to her. how adorable is that little scoopie dude? he has bendable arms and legs.

raul was kind enough to oblige an old mom type and allow me to take a memento photo.

we will miss him. we were lucky that he'd just returned from a week vacation.

and here is a bookmark i made this morning. i made two, but only got a quick photo of this one. it went along with a cook book order. well, the moving truck will be brought home tomorrow and ev will start loading it up. i'll be back with some tales o' tuesday so do drop by. same time. same station.

i haven't made one of my sewn paper cards in quite a while. i love this print of a painting by vera stravinsky. it's titled fantastic city. it is from a wonderful little vintage discarded library book. i just love everything about the book. the style. the format. the biography written in short, dated spurts.

i also made this nifty library pocket whatever. i have a new ink pad that is called chalkboard style. i wanted a cocoa color for this stamp. scout and i could not resist trying the chalkboard stamp. we have no idea how it works but it does. what a great affect.

i hope the recipient will love it. i chose to tear the edges instead of using scissors. i like the result. i want to make more of these. i have a thing for pockets. not sure what that means.

11.21.11 ... portfolio and art through the years

this afternoon we worked on scout's portfolio. well, squeeze that 'we' and see how much 'i' is in it. scout did 99.999 % of the actual work. she went through a portfolio filled with art from 2006-2008 and cleared it out so she can reuse the portfolio. we later decided on a different portfolio case, but thankfully, after we'd decided to empty this one. otherwise we wouldn't have found and enjoyed this trip down memory lane art work.

it was rainy and dreary today so my photos are strained, at best. i wish i had managed to get more of the art pile in these photos. it was an amazing amount and it was only her loose art. most is intact in her numerous sketchbooks.

it was a nifty experience and we were able to see her progression so vividly. at the same time i was stunned by the quality of her art. it is hard to believe a 12 and 13 year old produced it.

below is a side by side of one of her favorite characters, Essy. The one on the left is now. The one on the right is four years ago. what do you think? isn't that fun?

today was a good day. it was quiet and mr. sweetness, jon cody, surprised scout with the new zelda game so she was one happy girl all day long. she still helped with packing and making another delicious dinner. have i told you she started making a weekly menu? we told her how we used to do it years ago before she was born when the boys were pre-teen and teen age. it's great fun, not to mention unbelievably pleasant to have that chore off of my mind. plus, she chooses new recipes which is always a treat. variety is the spice of life.

this apollo dish is one i found a month or so ago and i fell in love immediately. i am enchanted by it and wonder what its history is. what hotel or ??? does it represent. but it is mine now and i will enjoy it for many years. and maybe one day chance upon its origin.

by the way, did you notice that today is 11.20.20.11 ... pretty cool, eh?

we forgot to bring the camera in to fred and we forgot to use the iphone. shoot. but we used the iphone at mann's where we had a true texas barbecue lunch experience for kay. here are the girls at the end of our meal.

this evening the girls made frozen fruit salad cups. and they actually froze by dessert time. so we enjoyed them while we watched parenthood.

which was nice. and delicious.

i was going to clean out my iphoto and this one jumped out at me. when i checked my shop i found i had not chosen it when i originally created the sunglasses listing. so i fixed it up and added it. it looks so cute in my shop. now let's hope it sells the sunglasses. only 24 days left for us here in austin. then on to california. it will be here before we know it. have a beautiful new week, friends.

this is the way we do things. yesterday we were looking through our iphone photos for a house photo and the person looking over scout's shoulder comments: lots of pictures of food! and that is so true. we laugh about how many we have. food and kitties and one mr. chippy. they comprise most of our photo albums. we never realize how many until we skim through looking for something that is not food, an adorable cat or beagle.

11.3.11 ... my next good things book

i have a custom. i write three good things that happen every day in a little book. it's a way for me to find the good in days that don't always seem to have held any. and a way for me to celebrate the extra good days when life seems full of good things. i add illustrations and doodles along the way. each dated entry is unique in its look and content. last year i decided to make my own book because i have trouble finding journals with unlined paper. i like the books to be small. now that book is almost full and i need another. this time i made a small and very unusual booklet. this one is made of bits of pages from a 1970s reader and a music textbook. i think these papers add yet another layer of happy to the theme. the cover is from an old adult art lessons book that i love and have used as wrapping paper often. i don't have many pages left.

it will be interesting to see how the end look of this book unfolds. i have always used pencil but in this one i will use fine line marker because i will need to write in an even more creative style in order to work my way around the images. i'm looking forward to seeing this little booklet completed. and to making another one before too long.

i wanted the style to be loose so the pages are different sizes and the cover edges are torn instead of neatly sized and trimmed on the paper slicer..

i hope you enjoy seeing my good things book and that you might be inspired to start one, too. it's a nice way to recall the good things in your life and you only need a few minutes a day to keep up with it. they are fun to read through every once in a while, too.

it truly makes a big difference in strolling terms when the temperature is no longer 104*. or even over 100* for 90 days.

our recent brown sugar purchase was quite unusual. i took photos before i threw it away so i could write to domino. i did that on their website, expecting to be able to attach these images - or at least one. other company websites have that option. lacking my photo accompaniment, i was left with the description that this was the strangest thing (brown sugar wise) i have seen. i ended with the true statement 'love your products'. other sugar is not as good. end of story. i am not about to jump the sugar ship. these things happen. today i received a response that left me feeling miffed. in short, it referred to the refined process of many, many years that results in uniformly excellent products. that was followed by two paragraphs on proper storage of sugar. in the last line i was told that as a token of appreciation for my patronage they are sending me coupons for my next purchase. to which i responded with a letter that included the topics of both my advanced age and consumer history and knowledge of proper sugar storage. and these photos.

i received another response that agreed with my strangest thing descriptor. now i feel better. i have dealt with grocery stores and written to companies a number of times when we've been unfortunate enough to start preparing a meal only to find an ingredient is not fit for consumption. and it is always interesting to observe the various responses. some could take lessons from others. i always wonder how many other people experience these oddities. because my list is growing. and i have some funny (in retrospect) tales to go along with the reimbursement process. i might write a book.

10.28.11 ... muffins and hearts

hello darlings. how was your friday? mine was pretty damn good. this morning i made a batch of my bran muffins but decided to try something different. added a chopped pecan/brown sugar/cinnamon topping from my applesauce bread recipe. oh my gravy. genius idea.

we all loved them.

shortly before dinner fixin' time, we took a stroll. we take mr. chippy with us around one or two blocks and then drop him off (he is 11 and 3 legged). then we go a little farther. and look what i spied. this heart shaped new cactus growth. how fabby is that? scout used her new (thanks, dusty) iphone which is dustin's old iphone but newer than her original iphone. what i am getting to is that the camera in this one is quite lovely. great photos, eh?

and, lastly, i have been working on my newest button haul. sorting, cleaning, organizing for storage. i was messing around and thought it would be fun to arrange the buttons into a mosaic before putting them away. so, as i clipped off staples or threads, i placed the readied buttons side by side. i had just gotten started when scout dropped by and said 'oh i love your heart .' i was surprised to look down and see this heart shape. i didn't even notice i had done that. it's a sign.

by the way, isn't that little floral locket or pendant adorable?

i made this bookmark from a salvaged vintage elementary reader. the book is a fishing and game book so i loved that i spied this fish image.

this is the reverse. originally it bothered my sensibilities that the fish were vertical on the back but once it was formed, i decided it's pretty cool. i like it. speaking of things i like, it has FINALLY cooled down here. sigh. heavenly.

i am without photos of my creative energies once again today and i haven't had the chance to share this photo I took from the car while we were in traffic in san francisco. i like this a lot. a long time ago i collected coca cola things. that was way long before eBay took all the joy out of it. i only have a few favorites left but this sign reminded me of the good old days when coke was in a bottle and it tasted like heaven on bubbles. why would you change perfection? better question: why do millions of people not notice? mediocrity. a shame, isn't it? here's hoping your evening and bright new day ahead are a cut above.

hello friends. today's creation left the building un-photographed but i have this one from a while ago i've been saving . i don't want to spoil any surprises by sharing before things reach their destination. this is something different (the stickers name design) for me and i enjoyed it. the envelope is a recycled gift bag. the letter stickers are from a fred jaunt. speaking of fred, today we went for a bit. haven't been in a while. scout and i found some groovy vintage buttons and later, she found vintage peanuts gang pillowcase and a sesame street pillowcase and flat sheet. they are all so pretty. then i found a vintage white 'hollywood long' fitted sheet. they are so hard to come by and this one is in beautiful condition. i can't believe i found it. as usual, these were all spied on our winding down walk to the check out. happens every time. ev found a groovy old cabinetmaking woodwork book. he is happy with that.

i hope the gift was happily received.

today i designed a new package wrap and i like it. i used a salvaged brown bag.

this afternoon we ran into the dollar store to get some scotch tape and i spied a roll of brown kraft paper - made in the u. s. a. people! that's what i'm talkin' about. so my next brown paper packages will be tidier and i am looking forward to messing around with different design elements. recycled, naturally.

... today i continued my journey back in time. i completed my teaching years sorting and organizing and worked a bit on this project, too. these are pieces of scout art doodles from her early years. we have to let go of some of the massive amounts of art she has produced and it is so hard. i went through these and cut the small images into assorted size papers. they will become address labels, calling cards, bookmarks, note papers and more.

i hope they will brighten up people's day as they have added so much sunshine to ours.

trust me, we have boxes full of drawings similar to these and even cuter. the girl produced dozens of drawings a day even as a toddler.

we're thinking it is time to part with our beloved piano. we looked a long time before we found this one second hand in 1996. we've lovingly lugged it along through nine moves. we need this next one to be severely light. here's one of the photos i took while preparing to offer it for sale. our hope is that it will find a wonderful home and that we'll be lucky enough to find a family as reluctant to pass theirs along as we are and everyone will wind up happy. a home needs a piano.

here is my prototype credit card wallet. i used fabric scraps and modeled it after one scout got at an event last year. that one was made out of different materials.

there are two pockets inside for cards.

mine needs some minor adjustments and i want to mess around with the style some more.

in general, i think it is a good start and i am pleased with the result. i hope to find time to make another one soon. stay tuned.

10.18.11 ... paper stuff

here is a project i've been working on over a period of time recently. some of the clippings are years in the saving. i save them for one of these days and one of these days arrives every so often. i matched them up with card stock pieces i have floating about here and there. some are greeting card and envelope pieces. some are paint sample strips.

i am not sure where i will go from here with all of them, but i do have plans for some of them. a few will become covers of miniature accordian books. i really love all of these images.

and i love the variety. and matching the pieces with the card stock.

this one is a favorite. here is what it looks like during the perusing and production phase...

and below is the set. i also made those tazo tea bag paper pockets (an earlier post). you may spot some of the parts here.

when i take these pieces one step further i'll post the results. today i worked on another - new - sewing project. those photos will be here tomorrow night. see you then.

today i made this cute corner bookmark for someone who purchased an owl laden vintage item from joonE. it will be on its way to australia tomorrow. i have a project to share with you but i am going to wait until tomorrow night because there would be too many photos for tonight. here is the reverse of the bookmark...

this one is made from a discarded vintage children's book. it has seen a lot of love but i can find some life in it here and there. and so it lives on. and travels across the world. one last photo for this evening. here is besos trying to make herself invisible so she can stay right near me as i work. she had jumped up on my table and i scolded her and she smooshed herself into the window casing and made herself very comfortable. she's a tricky old bird.

i continued my sorting this afternoon and came upon these get well wishes and bill clinton. i know. these things really go together, right? plus, there are bon bons and ghosts involved. so pay attention and give yourself a chance to smile. i taught second grade many moons ago. for just four short years. during my second year, i was engaged to evan and this was a topic of great interest to the class. in the spring, i was ill and missed school for a stretch of time and the substitute was kind enough to allow the children a few minutes of time to compose a get well book. but first, you should know that i referred to an alternate universe quite often. as in: if you all knew everything already there'd be no need for me. i'd be sittin' on the beach eatin' bon bons and watching soap operas. now what kind of life is that? hence, the bon bon art above. and now for a page from the well wishes book...

yes, there i am in bed miserable as all get out while evan waits on me hand and foot. i am sure at some point he might have indeed uttered: hurry up and get rid of that cold. I am tired of taking care of you and i want to get wed! (that was in 1993 and i still marvel that he went ahead with the wedding after that unfortunate period of time in our history.) at any rate, this is the first time i have looked through these and i did not recall the ghosts or bon bons but this page came back to me like a flash. i loved it then and i love it now. and i realize that bill clinton has nothing to do with the get well book. yes, this is random, but scout got such a kick out of the fact that a second grader was drawing bill clinton that i had to include it.

this morning evan made this gorgeous crumb cake. it is the first one we've ever tried. scout found the handwritten recipe card during one of our fred outings. the cake is unreal and ev says it was easy. a piece of cake. then this afternoon, i began going through my stored teaching memories and one of the many special keepsakes i found is this one, seen below. it is a sweet example of evan's dedication to me and my class.

one year we decided to go across the road and up a ways to a small park and have a barbecue lunch. and evan generously came as the chef because, let's face it, there is no way any of it was happening with me running that show. and this adorable handmade hot dog card demonstrates how the children felt about him. it is the only one like it so is an original idea by this one student. the front of the hot dog on the bun, followed by the back of the hot dog on the bun .....

with a very creative mechanism piece that emulates how a real bun opens and closes. and, of course, the message.

it reads: dear evan, thank you for getting off of work just to fix hot dogs. it's the simple things in life.

made this today for an outgoing package that has a vintage pair of tongs in the shape of a whale.

and here is our precious and quite tasty miniature watermelon that we found at the farmer's market yesterday.

hello everyone. i have been creating quite a bit here this week. i made some groovy package inclusions and i'll post them one day soon, but i must carry on with the pixar story for now. i love the photos we took there so. naturally, you know i love this one of ev and scout.

we're getting pretty excited about our trip on tuesday. we've been going through scout's life tubs again - such fun but what a job - today so i made this treasury tonight. right when i got the last one in place the page flipped out - and i lost the whole thing! i had to start all over again using my history and still came up short so my search went on and on. oh well. it was still fun and turned out so pretty. scout made one, too. here's hers....

10.1.11 ... happy birthday, dust . a package and buttons

feliz cumpleanos to my dusty. he is 31. i still remember the night i had him like it was yesterday. maybe some day i can work it into a movie script. it was pretty funny. ok, i was pretty funny. today i wrapped up this little package of christmas rubber stamps. i was so happy that i spied this perfect sized box, just the right size green tissue paper and a piece of wide ribbon all in different places as i walked through the house. that rarely works out.

i used the first of my recycled postcard bookmarks that i posted about a little while back. i promised the other photos of my button find so here they are...

i need to get to work sewing!

i love how they've been all organized into these little bags.

quite the lucky find. we've been going through scout's life tubs and having such a laugh fest here this weekend. this is the first time we've looked through things since i saved them all. scout's having a blast. she was one hilarious child. plus, her art is amazing. what are y'all doing this weekend? hope it's fun.

today we started going through our life tubs. and we had such fun finding all sorts of photos, cards, souvenirs, newspaper clippings and, most of all, art. i loved finding this, which i had forgotten all about. scout made this homemade and original version take-off of pin the tail on the donkey for her 6th birthday party. and here it is, replete with all of the tails she made taped on by all of her sweet little friends, just as they were that warm june day in 2002.

how creative and fun is this idea? it was all hers. there's a lot more to come. hope your day was lovely. and your memories as sweet as ours.

9.28.11 ... recycled laminated map package

i can't show what i worked on today so ... the other day i made this package out of a laminated map. it works so nicely because it is strong like a box but a lot lighter. this one is going to australia and the postage was a factor. inside this package is the item safely padded and tucked in a tea box, which is then wrapped in a thick layer of giant bubble wrap.

plus, it has the added factor of sending a little bit of texas sunshine and personaility across the globe.

9.27.11 ... vintage buttons all in a row

last week we went to fred and i found a button here and a button there. it was like finding a needle in a haystack. but some of them are pretty cool.

i love these old button cards. there's one with a pine tree scene. it's my favorite. they are so old that they are disintegrating. the prices give us a clue as to their age. honestly. a card full of buttons for .29 or .39?

i love the teeny tiny purple cluster. i couldn't believe i found those in that giant bin filled with junk.

the ships are intriguing.

a nice woman saw scout and i hunting for these and said she had a basket full of crafty items she'd found and she went and got them and handed them to us. it was so refreshing. i wondered didn't she want them and she said she only took them to save them because they were about to remove that bin and they would all go to the dump. i love that. it is something i would do. oddity loves company. you know that saying, don't you? sadly, we only chose a few small things, but the bins we left the remainder in were not going to be pulled right away. hopefully someone came along and loved them. she did have a huge plastic bag filled with smaller, sealed bags of matching buttons. i will show those another night soon. they are really nice. i think they are old also.

there's the pine tree card - the navy blue one with 10 cents on it. it is so fragile. i had fun arranging them and look forward to using them on what i know will be special projects.
