5.2.11 ... recycled bookmarks

here's something new that flashed in my brain --- combining vintage film stills with a common children's book to create an interesting bookmark design.

i like it. this is the reverse.

these are all extra surprises for joonE orders going out tomorrow. this one is for a person who mentioned she loves bluebirds.

i used that old suess dictionary and a safety envelope turned inside out.

and here is one of my mixed media whale stamp corner bookmarks for another buyer.

3.26.11 ... dictionary ephemera gift box wrap

i received an order in a recycled gift box and, naturally, i loved that. i want to use it yet again and hope the next people in line will be encouraged to reuse it as well, but it was getting a little worse for the wear so i decided to give it an edge and wallpaper it. i went through my old discarded dictionary looking for something interesting and with the right page placement. i love this hieroglyphics illustration --- i just now noticed it is about a gift!

well, prior to finding that .... this was my favorite aspect of the particular piece - that it had the hieroglyphics bit and that higgledy-piggledy are situated perfectly for the latter to rest exactly on the box top edge.

and i love that flounder is on hand and that the top edge flaw which bows out has the words 'higher and lower' right on the 'hilly' section.

and i love this flourish. how groovy is this?

i am thinking about what i'd like to use for the interior. i'll be back with that one day soon. or later.

1.2.11 ... Aa . dictionary fan shout out

true confessions. and it's only the second day of the new year? wow. here it is. i have been known to read dictionaries for hours. i love them. it stands to reason then that when I spied two vintage dictionaries at the thrift shop that i decided to take a chance that other people might share my affinityfor the old-school paper method of language study. today i finished my first batch of dictionary ephemera magnet sets. for my fellow word geeks.  are you all out there?



i hand colored and collaged these original image magnets. i had fun with these.  the mid-century look and the featured word illustration choices appeal to  me on so many levels. i will not bore you with my word obsession editorial. today.  but I will say that i hope these magnets prove appealing to some of my etsy shoppersso that i can move along to the letter Bb. i am going to start listing them in  my joonbeam shop (www.joonbeam.etsy.com) now. a question for you: should i make an assortment of magnets and pinbacks or stick with magnets?   i was going to mix up this batch, but couldn't decide which pairs should be one or the other.your thoughts?
