2.28.11 ... can you tell me how to get, how to get to sesame street?

i have this groovy old discarded book that tells the story of sesame street's beginnings and behind the scenes vignettes. it's very cool. i haven't used it for crafting. but today i decided it can be enjoyed best by coming out of the bin and yielding to my transforming powers. now these wonderful images can bring happy memories to many fellow sesame street character fans. starting with my own family...

creating practical art is always one of my favorite project goals. i made these oscar the grouch and mr. hooper magnets. do you love and miss mr. hooper like we do?

this is where i started - with this sesame street sign corner bookmark...

i love these graphics and the way the lamp globe placement winds up on the reverse.

and, last but never least, the count. this is the first super sized corner bookmark i have ever made. i couldn't resist.

isn't he 100% fabulous? so now the wheels are turning as i plan and brainstorm more new recycled art ideas.
sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

2.27.11 ... homemade stickers gone backwards

i had a little bit of my homemade sticker glue left and wanted to use it up before it turned into a possible creature from another planet. hey, you never know. this time i grabbed a handful of paper scraps i'd been saving and applied the sticker glue to a few pre-made stamps, but mostly plain pieces of paper.

it was fun stamping afterword and i plan to try this again soon. the glue had gotten quite thick but now when i make a fresh batch i will know i can use it all up quickly and make the illustrations and designs after.

the 'you make it happen' pieces are from spam junk mail envelopes. save our planet. it's satisfying to turn a major cultural negative into a positive. once again, who needs algebra? sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

2.26.11 ... tangled magnets for scout

we were gone for most of the day so i planned on a simple project for today. i love to go through entertainment magazines - that wonderful people save and gift to me - to see if i might find some pop culture images i can recycle into something fun. scout loves tangled and this image is the only one - and way near the end of the magazine, i was about to give up looking - usable. but, oh so worth it.

she chose magnets this time. she says she wants to have these on the fridge so she can see them every day.

hope you enjoy seeing these. my thinking cap is on for my next creative adventure. time to finish watching last night's movie, tootsie.

sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

2.25.11 ... car cup cover and table of contents

we have a car cat, besos. i think i've mentioned her before. she loves the car. ridiculously. we take her as much as we can, which is limited to fair weather days, of which the year does not have an abundance, neither in new england or here in texas. we always bring this cup of water when we go out and when we have her with us we prefer to return to the car and find our water clear and clean. we've been using a piece of foil or a small ziploc but they are lacking in more ways than one. so today i made this lovely snug cap. and i added some pizzazz features.

the fabric is a sample piece i've had for years from one of my hawaiian fabric company orders. i love their fabrics, by the way. and their service is amazing. it's been years since i've ordered any. this piece is lined with a piece of sturdy white cotton. the flower button is from my vintage collection and the tag...

...is from my equally eclectic tag collection. i love the 'made in u s a' and '100% cotton' elements on this one. the key ring was an afterthought, but i am pretty much crazy going nuts for it. it's handy in so many ways. not only can you throw a key on it and have one with you when strolling sans purse {divine wish, no?}, but it helps you locate it both in the car and the house. it will slip over your finger and stay safe and clean - while you're adding or drinking water. and, it rests on a hook magnet on our fridge while we're home. it also removes easily for laundering.

here is besos {the tabby}, the car cat, with ginny weasley {the tortie}. i couldn't resist this as they were cuddled like this while i was taking my photos this afternoon. the easy life indeed.

i didn't plan to make this today, but in the course of my recent organizational flurry, i straightened my salvaged paper stash and decided to make myself a helpful guide in the hope that it will slow down the chaos factor and save me a lot of time and frustration in the interim. i will laminate it and hang it over the collection.

i had no intention of doing anything more than simply writing the order and categories but i started having a good time and so this came about.

scout made the most incredible dinner tonight. a pork chop casserole with mushrooms, green onions, sour cream and swiss cheese topping on the sauteed chops. unreal. rice and broccoli. heaven. and then ... the ever irresistible peanut butter cornflake bars. remember those? time for them, a cup of tea and tootsie. sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

2.24.11 ... miniature idea note sack and follow-up

while organizing my art room and my thoughts today this popped into my head - a miniature idea system with a grocery bag design. i can keep it on my desk without losing much space and have tiny pieces of paper handy for my brainstorms. i can jot them down and stick them back into the grocery sack. the photo above is actually the reverse. the other side has the beginning of the phrase. i just loved this photo for my post beginning tonight.

i used all sorts of scrap papers and trimmed them into 1 1/2 X 2 1/2 inch sheets. i love reusing small pieces of various papers.

here is the front of the bag. small stuff that goes thru my head ...

i stitched some sides and used glue stick for the remainders.

papers i used include bank deposit receipts, ledger paper, used envelopes, utility bill paper - the blank sections, white paper and my favorite robin's egg blue quality cotton paper i got off the clearance table at X PeD X. i also used a few lottery ticket papers.

here is yesterday's project completed. i love the cover and, as you can see, so does my honeymoon moose.

now i have no excuse for not compiling collections of ideas. i only need 310 more for this year's challenge. :)
sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

2.23.2011

2.23.11 ... einstein . save the whale . mini idea book

i was making circles - not to be confused with going in circles which i do everyday so that goes without saying - and i thought about albert's birthday coming up in a couple of weeks and started messing around with two of my einey stamps. i have another one i did not get to experiment < --- {a true einey term} with today.  then i had a stack of envelopes waiting for me to cut them into bookmark corners and strips for circles...

...and a piece of junk mail that had two pages with this beautiful ocean blue color. so i made some stamps for future stickers and some circles just to have for backgrounds although the one that says 'of art' i will use as is.

and here is everything ...

...this is my collection for today. and for tomorrow, i started making a cover for this old S.O.G. with P.O.P book. remember those? 'silly old grandma with pictures in pocket' {or pocketbook} i haven't seen one in about 30 years or more so i was really happy when i spied it in the thrift store bin yesterday. for all of .50 i will now have a mini idea book. i can slip my sketches and clippings etc. into the photo pages and open it up whenever i need a project. i used my colored pencils to create the book cover paper.

and besides, i love square anything and this makes it all the more appealing to me.
sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

2.22.11 ... a sign of peace and a little patch

i finished preparing the four outgoing packages and many times i like to include something extra. it was gloomy today so this is the only set i had the chance to photograph. the button is made from a magazine piece i have had for a long time, the peace hand is one of my recently produced home made stickers and the bookmark was started long ago. i added the heart and loop edge ribbon. i really love how it compliments the swirls in the bookmark photo.

a while later i took a few moments to patch this old kitchen towel. the eggplant embroidered applique is separating from the towel after all these years. i found this little fabric scrap with the flowers in the same shade as the bleached out eggplant. i think it is good to go for quite some time and that patch will bring me a smile because it's from one of scout's toddler tops.

2.21.2011

2.21.11 ... little packaging fun . snoopy . gregory peck . home .

today we went on a trash/recycling collection walk about. we collected a total of 617 pieces of litter and recyclable trash in 50 minutes. this is part of my project snowflake. for every item sold in my etsy shops i pick up 13 pieces of litter. i had no idea i was doing so well! i am behind but we made great progress today. i need to clean up 490 more pieces to catch up with my sales. i started this challenge on march 17th, 2010. so far, evan, scout & i have picked up 1330 pieces of litter. it's a good feeling and the neighborhood looks that much neater. meanwhile ...i have four packages to get ready for the mail and these magnet and pin packaging cards are my creations to share for today.

as usual, i had fun with these. the snoopy pin is from a very old paperback book so the paper is very fragile. i folded & sewed it and added the piece of tagboard for extra stability. the 'home' set is on a bit of christmas card. i forgot to get a photo of the back but it has a pretty pale blue card stock with a heart tree stamp that turned out to be exactly the right size and shape.

i hope the recipient will enjoy the presentations. sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

2.20.2011

2.20.11 ... pooh ephemera magnets

today i made pooh magnet batches. the papers are original, as always - these from a discarded 1942 copy of winnie the pooh and other stories. i named the sets. the one above is a hand colored embellished set named, simply: adventures with pooh

this one, also hand colored accents: april showers - pooh floats

this is one of a set {see group photo below for its mates} called: ho hum. it looks like rain.

this set: pooh thinks. therefore he is.

this is one of a set of five called: isn't it funny how a bear loves honey?
these will all be listed in my joonbeam etsy shop asap.

i fought with the sun today, once again. i did enjoy the process from start to finish, though. this took me most of the day. interruptions included, naturally.
sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

2.19.2011

2.19.11 ... photo play and vintage cookbook magnets

ev and scoutie made pizza this evening. i experimented with some low light photos to document the event.

the dishes never stop. catching up while the pizza bakes.

where's that pizza? it smells sooooo good....

oh happy day. pizza night.

all ready to dig in to the piece de resistance...

barbecue chicken, black olive & banana pepper pizza with (not pictured) homemade ranch dressing. scout made the (coca-cola) bbq sauce, dressing and learned how to make ev's dough & sauce. meanwhile, back at the ranch aka art room, i made some magnets...

i will list them in my joonbeam shop. i've needed to make some for a while now. here is one last photo --- thought you all might like to see a process phase photo:

decisions, decisions.
we watched baby mama tonight. it was really sweet. not at all as advertised. movie studios are strange birds. you'd think with so many talented people in the world, the cream would rise to the top and yet it is always a crap shoot. i wonder why. anyway --- we are happy we chose it & recommend it.

sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon
