7.30.11 ... flower bookmark

hello friends! i was up early this morning and made this little sweetheart to go along with a flowery item. i enjoyed combining doodling with my coffee time.

i used some new colored pencils i found yesterday at fred. they are actually vintage and so much nicer than the new ones. they were all sharpened, too! it was a very cool find because they are the brand i use. but a lot more colors than i have because i can only get one or two at a time and was adding slowly. this find was 23 pencils! woo hoo.

this is a section of the recycled card i made to go along with the purchase.

5.28.11 ... my flowers have grown - a recycled surprise

today scout and i worked on a complex project that isn't ready to be posted visually yet so i am taking this opportunity to share this one from a week or so ago.

it can be a large fold over bookmark or a stand alone little art decor piece. it's constructed out of a discarded 1960s book illustration, a ledger paper piece and some manila card stock i found at a thrift store.

i had fun with it.

i placed one of my favorite stamp messages on the back. because i love abe and i love friendships. how's your holiday weekend shaping up so far?

5.15.11 ... flower photos

it was a pretty day and we went on a short walk. i took these two photos of flowers we have never seen before.

i worked on some other creative projects most of the day. i'm sure when i finish them up you will see what else i've been up to. i hope you all had a lovely weekend doing things that add to your sense of well being.

4.15.11 ... miniature package fun

i did all kinds of prep work today in my art room. i was cleaning up and organizing bits of things i've saved. i had a stack of junk mail class - read bills - envelopes to recycle. i made a stack of corner bookmark blanks, note paper, circles for pins and magnets, homemade shredded packing paper and something i think is genius but i won't share it with you until i complete the project. but it's pretty cool. i also had this sale to prepare for tomorrow morning's mail and came up with this little recycled card piece. it was actually junk mail based, too. but nice paper as you can probably see. i added the little illustration and slipped it into the teeny ziploc bag. i think it is quite cute.

i hope the buyer enjoys her package. scout and i suddenly feel as though we might be coming down with a cold. bummer. we're having ginger tea in a moment. that should help. emotionally if nothing else. hope you're all well and had a beautiful friday. it's ev's birthday sunday so today began day one of birthday weekend. he's watching daybreak episodes on netflix and loving it.

2.17.11 ... designer fabric buttons

today i spent all afternoon in my art room. i was taking photographs and then i made a magnificent pot roast with a beer base gravy. i rounded off the afternoon with this set of three fabric pin back buttons. i had made some a couple of years ago and they sold. i have been thinking about making more but my fabric has been buried until recently.

i had taken quite a few pictures when i thought of adding picksey to the shoot. these photos are killing me. how cute are these?

he's a good model. so patient and easy to work with. :)

1.27.11 ... pencil valentine & pastel flower magnets

i was cleaning up my art room a bit and sorting through papers and came across a rescued paper pencil bit that i had clipped out of a discarded children's book and punched a row of mini hearts across. that gave me the idea for this illustration with the single heart punch and the traditional puny sentiment. i used my regular colored pencils for this drawing and my beloved le pens for the sentiment.

then i dug out my pastel pencils and made these simple flower magnets based on a little sketched flower i had done one day and saved. i love how they turned out. i don't have many opportunities to use my pastels because they smudge easily but the mylar on buttons and magnets preserves them. so they're good for these projects. i also made the background paper using the three flower color schemes. all in all, highly satisfying creative spurt. ciao for now.

Scraps of Fabric Too Small To Save...

...but, then again, that must be someone else's house. Fun with teeny scraps. I'm thinking a bookmark but it could also be a little decor candy. I see it as an abstract on a lake with a grassy bank, trees/forest, blue skies, sunset. {You should hear some of my dreams. It might explain things.} Each bit here has a story to tell. That makes me happy. It is getting dark and threatening to rain so I had to fight the elements while taking these photos outside. If you need me, I'll be in the kitchen making homemade tortillas and stirring beans. We're having smothered green chili bean burritos for dinner and homemade strawberry shortcake. oooo la la

It's a great day for America, everybody. Yes it is.
