5.8.11 ... mother's day gifts and rubber stamps

these are some of my mother's day gifts. the necklace is made by my etsy friend, modern bird. somebodies i love noticed my blog post about her shop. i was so surprised when i saw this lovely necklace. and look how it compliments my modern bird earrings.

ev and scout surprised me this morning with a pile of pretty packages and all of these goodies and more were inside. i would say i was one lucky mom on mother's day but that wouldn't make sense because, with my beautiful family, i am one lucky mom every day of every year.

for my creating project today i made some recycled packing out of leftover mother's day gift wrap.

and scout and i carved out our stamps. mine is the sun and scout's, which i think is incredible, is below. i have a few more fixes on mine but i want to wait until the wood block is on because that makes it easier and it also makes a difference on the impression smoothness.

scout's stamp is mimi - a character she created a little over two years ago. and, as an aside, scout looks so much like dustin as a teen. deja vu. i hope you all had a beautiful mother's day.

sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

5.7.11 ... mother's day recycled love

today i made this little recycled coaster as a mother's day gift. the reverse (seen below) is cut from a favorite, but worn, cloth napkin we've used for years.

there's a quilted square inside as well as the quilting on the finished piece. the inside square consists of a hot pad piece covered on each side by an old flour sack towel piece.

i made this card from a discarded library book. the folded blue piece is attached with glue and has the greeting inside. it covers the library stamp. i love the illustration and ...

the characters on this half resemble the family of the card receiver.

5.6.11 ... scout with her new art supplies

my daily creation is photos again today. scout's brothers gave her an early birthday gift - groupons to jerry's art-a-rama. here are the fruits of her first visit.

she is having fun drawing with her new colored pencils. she has not had her own set like this before. we also tried a new recipe from a houston restaurants cookbook i spied on the new book rack at the library the other day. it was a tortilla strip topped soup and was fantastic. scout made dinner - including the friend corn tortilla strips which were lovely and she did a super job. i am sorry i didn't get a photo or two. enjoy your mother's day weekend.

5.4.11 ... mother's day cards

we worked on cards today and i have photos of mine which i will share on mother's day and not before! here is scout's card for a dear friend. i know she does not have interweb access so we are safe sharing this one before it arrives in her mailbox.

this 'mom' once told scout about her escapades grooming - as it were - her hair stylist to achieve a hair cut she feels is worthy. so scout couldn't resist this illustration choice. we had fun making our cards. it took us most of the day.

5.2.11 ... recycled bookmarks

here's something new that flashed in my brain --- combining vintage film stills with a common children's book to create an interesting bookmark design.

i like it. this is the reverse.

these are all extra surprises for joonE orders going out tomorrow. this one is for a person who mentioned she loves bluebirds.

i used that old suess dictionary and a safety envelope turned inside out.

and here is one of my mixed media whale stamp corner bookmarks for another buyer.

5.1.11 ... seuss picture dictionary buttons

the other day i found a discarded suess picture dictionary. i have never seen one before. that seems impossible but there you have it. i had to get it because visions of adorable magnets and buttons raced through my head, not to mention a million other ideas. these are the first. i think they're perfect for mother's day.

scout found her 'are you my mother?' book for my photo shoot. the dictionary birds reminded me of the star of this classic. i hope your may day was lovely.
