6.7.11 ... scout

today i started my pinterest site so that was a huge creation. i don't really know what i am doing so i haven't gotten too far, but i still spent all morning on it. i'd put my link here but i don't even know what it is. i tried to figure out the pin button, too, but couldn't. oh well, there's always tomorrow. if you are on pinterest and know what you're doing, my id name is joonie. 

meanwhile, back at the ranch, i needed some photos of this vintage movie camera for my etsy shop and asked scout if she'd help me out. i love these three photos because they are playful and because of the pairing of her with a camera and her hero, walt, with his. and that photo of him is so wonderful, too. yes, it is mr. disney. how adorable is he?

tomorrow is scout's 17th birthday but she still knows how to have fun with the little things in life. i love that about her.

today i sent an email to the sign language school, asking f scout could accompany me when i start next week. scout has completed the first two sessions. this will be my first. the response was: That is okay but she might be bored sitting in a class she has already taken. and all i could think of was that scout could never be bored. not in a million years. you couldn't pay her to be bored. and i realized what a marvelous happenstance that is. if we all approached life with that sense of creative wonder, unending curiosity and genuine interest in everything what a beautiful cultural environment we'd be sharing.

she's my beautiful girl. you all who are following my journey here will look back on this year and be able to say 'i knew her when'. i guarantee it.

6.6.11 ... bookmark and package

as usual on mondays, i only have a short amount of time for my artistic endeavor of the day because we are gone all afternoon. so, this morning as i prepared this package i took photos as i went along. the photo above, of course, is the step right before addressing it.

it's a cookbook so i made a recycled cooking themed envelope corner bookmark for the buyer.

it's hard to see but i secured the tissue paper wrap with one of my handmade stickers. this one is a vintage camera illustration from a magazine.

i made the packaging myself using bubble wrap and a brown grocery bag. i put my favorite recycle stamp on the center back. i hope the recipient will enjoy both her new vintage (yogurt recipes) cookbook and her little surprise.

6.5.11 ... to save time ...

a few years ago i saw two pins with these phrases and i love them. i've been wanting to make my own designs for a year and a day and today was that day. above you see george with his and below you see martha with mine.

although they are both very apt descriptions of my character, this one provides much more gaiety to our household.

any other george and martha fans out there in my blog kingdom? this duo is one of my favorite earthly possessions. they make me smile every day.

6.4.11 ... packaging and a hint

i packaged up a sweet little vintage necklace and this is stage one. i made the bookmark out of a recent easter card. i just trimmed the eggs out!

then i wrapped the vintage hankie around the packet and slipped it into a bubble wrap pocket before sliding it snugly into the bubble mailer.

and here is a taste of what tomorrow brings. or maybe monday, but i hope to complete it tomorrow. ev is helping me. can you guess what we're up to?

6.3.11 ... a little note to a friend

i tried to email an old friend and got the dreaded 'delivery thwarted' or whatever it's called message. so i was going to send a postcard and then i decided what the hecks, so i wrote a small note.   and, while i was looking for something else, as usual, i spied my old happiness is book and thumbed through.   and when i saw this i felt it was fate so i wrote the text on it because, in the book, the text is on the opposite page.   and i wanted to save the adorable picture of linus that is behind that page.

i like this better, as it turns out. gee, what a surprise.

and then i added the hearts. pretty dang cute, eh?

for those of you who enjoyed my tortilla post last night, never fear, i will post the recipe soon. i was thinking of doing that but a tutorial would be better so that's why i postponed it. thanks for asking. i wondered if anyone would be interested. now i know.  talk about happiness...

6.2.11 ... homemade tortillas and bean burritos

i haven't made these in a while and let's just say i had one happy family this evening.

i make these with flour, salt, crisco and boiling water. they are simply fabulous.

if you made these, you would never eat another store bought tortilla. i haven't. they are like biting into a pair of rubbers and taste even worse.

these are heavenly. as you must be able to see.

do you see the little heart shape? this was the final tortilla. it's a sign.

6.1.11 ... my quote art - finished

i collect quotes in a small notebook and this is one of my favorites.  i have incorporated some into my various bookmarks and cards and other projects but this is the first of this type, which i've been thinking about for a long time.

i enjoyed working on it.  it did take a lot longer than i expected.  why i have expectations i do not know.

  

i know i will make more now.  i may make variations on this one because i kind of liked it before i outlined it, but i know it wouldn't stand out enough.  i will mess around with color lining i think.  

this cup and meter, along with the globe, are my favorite parts of the project.  i think.  

i do like it very much.  below, is a scanned image - thanks, scout!  :) .  you can see the weave of the paper better on this one.  i love that texture.  it's why i chose that paper.  i think it would make a nice poster - or smaller prints would be groovy, too.  

beginning today, scout has joined me in my create a day challenge.  she is going to help inspire me to keep going.  thanks, boo.  here is her brand new site.
