6.1.11 ... my quote art - finished

Img_7983

i collect quotes in a small notebook and this is one of my favorites.  i have incorporated some into my various bookmarks and cards and other projects but this is the first of this type, which i've been thinking about for a long time.

Img_7979

i enjoyed working on it.  it did take a lot longer than i expected.  why i have expectations i do not know.

Img_7977

i know i will make more now.  i may make variations on this one because i kind of liked it before i outlined it, but i know it wouldn't stand out enough.  i will mess around with color lining i think.

Img_7978

this cup and meter, along with the globe, are my favorite parts of the project.  i think.

Img_7954

i do like it very much.  below, is a scanned image - thanks, scout!  :) .  you can see the weave of the paper better on this one.  i love that texture.  it's why i chose that paper.  i think it would make a nice poster - or smaller prints would be groovy, too.

beginning today, scout has joined me in my create a day challenge.  she is going to help inspire me to keep going.  thanks, boo.  here is her brand new site.

4.12.11 ... recycled collage note card

4

i have a flying housewife letter order and began working on it this afternoon. i love this card. i have some new paper that i'd forgotten about and this is the first time i'm using it. i sometimes luck into beautiful paper on the discount table at x ped x. this card stock weight paper retails for $38 a ream and was reduced to $6 i think it was. it is gorgeous. i am really looking forward to making prints from homemade stamps on it. but, for now. here is today's creation. i love the zig zag down one side and the eric carle book paper piece that compliments the colors in the illustration so perfectly.

4

as always my trademark thread tails are in the house.

i do hope the recipient will enjoy it. tomorrow i will work on more aspects of it. be back with you then.

sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

4.8.11 ... maurice sendak pierre buttons

Img_5433

as you might imagine i had some fun with these, the first set in my limited run from a vintage, discarded library edition of pierre by maurice sendak. what is your favorite line from the book? it's hard to choose. the folding chair always kills me.

Img_5434

little cricket is still very ill and we're trying our hardest to get enough food into her to help her mend well and quickly as possible. we haven't managed to get a full can down her so i worry but we are doing what we can. i think we all just have to settle into a groove, none of us knowing what we are doing. it just breaks my heart to see her in such a critical state. we learned how to administer sub Q IV today and will add that to our regiment tomorrow. life is an adventure even in your own back yard.

3.30.11 ... speed record airplanes

3

i found these in a magazine article that had a time line of and information about the planes through history that broke speed records. i love the images so i made these magnets. i am very happy with them and will list them in my joonbeam shop ... if ev doesn't claim them first.

3

doesn't this eric carle book cover make a perfect background for them, too?

3

last night our local station kept airing commercials at the wrong times so that we missed half of craig ferguson and - to add insult to injury - we'd return to the program just in time to hear him announce 'we'll be right back ...' and then we'd see all the same darn commercials again. ugh. let's see what happens this evening. hope yours is pleasant.

3.8.11 ... word collage buttons and apricot bars recipe

3

i made the word buttons today and i am really pleased with them. i want to list them when i am supposed to be saving them for the spring fair. !!!

3

i know i will be making more. these were quite a bit of work and time but oh so much fun.

3

i can't decide which ones i like best. i love the sing button because i made the plaid design. and the fell short cracks me up and i also added a wee design. but i could name a reason i love each one so i'll spare you, kind readers. if you have one that stands out to you i'd love to read your comment. working alone i often wonder if anyone shares my reaction.

decisions, decisions.... and now for a special treat ...

Apricotbars

last night i made some apricot bars after i had posted for the evening so here is an iphoto - the best i could do at 10 PM - and my sis asked for the recipe so i am sharing it here for her and you all. they are so quick and delicious. we make this size which is half of the original recipe because we know we'd eat double if we made double. if you have a large family go for the 13 x 9 pan by all means. just double this recipe. come back and post a comment if you make them. i'd love to hear from you.
joon's apricot bars

1/2 c butter {always}{and we use unsalted}
1/2 c sugar
1 c flour {king arthur}
1/4 t. soda
1/2 t. salt
3/4 c. coconut {bakers}
9 oz. apricot jam {bon maman}
1/4 c chopped pecans or almonds {we did not have any last night}

cream butter and sugar. add flour, soda and salt. add coconut. pat 3/4 of mixture into a 9 x 9 un-greased pan. {a pie plate works perfectly also.} i sprinkle a little flour on which prevents the dough from sticking to the fork or spatula and aids in spreading it evenly. spread with jam. mix nuts {if you can afford them!} into remaining 1/4 mixture. sprinkle on top of jam. bake at 350 for 30 minutes. heavenly.

3.4.11 ... tuna salads and recycled book cover envelope

Img_3937

today's creations ... a homemade envelope with pizzazz. this book cover is too pretty to discard. the book is also pretty. i've been using the salvaged pieces in many projects but this is the first time i've had just the right type and size package to fashion the cover, which i have saved for an embarrassingly long time now, into an envelope.

Img_3941

listen to this: i had two etsy sales yesterday, which is lovely but unusual. today when i packaged them up i thought i was seeing things. one street address was 2838 and the other was 4828. seriously. how bizarre is this? i can't imagine what the odds are on those numbers turning up in my inbox on the same day.

Img_3944

i love the coated paper. it makes a sturdy envelope. and saves the earth a little. every little bit helps. this envelope can even be reused.

Img_3939

and i hope it will be.

Img_3931

this is my lunch plate. i made tuna salads and ev and scout went kind of crazy over them so i snapped a few photos in case this was all i got around to making today. the envelope came later so i am ok. this creating every day is not as easy as it sounds. and it doesn't sound all that easy either.

Img_3930

it was a delicious lunch i must say. at the moment we just finished watching footloose. i have never seen it. very interesting. seemed interminably long. it was kind of like glee on valium. ev is making some chocolate drop cookies. warm cookies at almost 11 pm. we're living crazy here tonight, folks.

2.18.11 ... be squared

i love squares. here's another idea i've had for a long time. except not with the 'be'. that came to me this afternoon because we stopped at a thrift store for a few minutes before closing time and i found an amazing vintage speedball book (50 cents) on how to hand write all kinds of groovy fonts with your speedball ink pen. i only had a few minutes so 'be squared' it is. picksey agreed to model for me again.

i am going to enjoy that book. my other finds are a 1956 amy vanderbilt etiquette book with unbelievable - even to me who lives in the past - questions and answers. but the hook - before i even had a chance to browse - was seeing the two artists - the second being 'andrew warhol'. little andy before he was famous. doing illustrations of place settings and how to eat a lobster. it's a fun find for 3 bits i must say. i've had an odd day, all told. i am glad the day is winding down. sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

2.4.11 ... melmac impressions II

i spent some time experimenting with various papers, colors and mediums - crayons, pencils and different brands of colored pencils. you can see a couple of tissue paper rubbings here in these photos. this is a much more challenging activity than i imagined. the recess of the cup bottoms is a real problem. the raised logos are not consistently level. the stetson cups are especially challenging in that respect while the lifetime cup's deep inset makes the rubbing very difficult. the angle of the crayon or pencil is too steep to grab a clean impression easily. and the paper moves despite what i feel is an iron grip. but i did enjoy this and made progress on feeling successful. it's handy for me that i love folk art. the imperfections are right at home here.

my camera bit the bullet today and that is a truly panic inducing occurrence. i make a commitment to create and blog every day of the year and on day 35 i lose a key element toward that end. ack! luckily, scout was generous enough to offer hers - a much better camera. i think i will have to borrow hers indefinitely. i can't even begin to think about a new camera for myself.

i also made homemade tortillas and smothered green chili burritos for dinner. one of these days i will take tortilla making photos and share my recipe and process with you.

i hope you enjoy today's art and are enjoying a lovely friday evening. here's to a beautiful weekend. stay warm. i'll be back with who knows what tomorrow.

1.10.11 ... newsletter & packaging

today was my last day to visit with the boys and val. we brought them to the airport this afternoon. my creating for today was here on my computer, designing my new newsletter template and sign up form. so because i don't have photos from today, i am including some recent packaging pictures from joonbeam sales.
hope you enjoy them. i should be getting back into some larger projects now that our little family holiday is over. i have a long list of ideas i am anxious to see unfold. it seems that it is much easier to brainstorm and add to the list than it is to put aside daily housework and errands and get started on one of the countless dream arts. do you find that to be true? if not, please share your tips. i need them!

this set of buttons is shown on its packaging, which is, like the collage papers the buttons themselves are composed of, a vintage children's book illustration. this one is a page folded over and stitched across both ends. the ORIGINAL envelope corner bookmark was a little added surprise extra. the ORIGINAL stamp is a vintage office stamp i found just this past year. i love it.

this set of buttons was made using paper ends from vintage thread spools. their packaging is a recycled card stock piece with a bit of old fabric and vintage ric arc attached for pizzazz.

this blue envelope corner bookmark has a mixed media design. the marbled paper was made by my sister years ago. i only have a few bits and pieces left. i had fun incorporating this one onto this corner design.
