4.27.11 ... house stamp and framed ephemera

i worked on my house stamp this afternoon and ev made the block and attached it. tomorrow i will try it and refine it. so stay tuned. all i can say is i sure wish i could see as well as this camera can!

this was a project i've had in mind for quite a while but i have been hunting for the right frame. it took some time, but boy did i luck into a perfect fit. this vintage frame is one of a pair which had expensive lithographs inside. from my research on the artist, they are most likely from the 1970s or very early 1980s. anyway, i took them out and will offer them in my joonE etsy shop frameless. i cleaned them up and used this one for my project. the paper is an antique from a Boston candy and ice cream purveyor, bailey's. i've had the doily for about 10 years, wondering why i save it and carefully traipse it from house to house. it is so delicate. but now it is perfect as a gift for a good friend of mine.

i can't believe the mat works so beautifully, too.

i love how this photo came out with the tree reflection so i'm sharing it as a photographic creation. it was a gorgeous day here today. the air was dry and there was a lovely breeze and the temperature was outstanding. the mosquitoes were on vacation. now that is a miracle, folks. i enjoyed being outside. i didn't get to play piano. i will be sure to make time tomorrow. hope your day was just right for you.

2.20.11 ... pooh ephemera magnets

today i made pooh magnet batches. the papers are original, as always - these from a discarded 1942 copy of winnie the pooh and other stories. i named the sets. the one above is a hand colored embellished set named, simply: adventures with pooh

this one, also hand colored accents: april showers - pooh floats

this is one of a set {see group photo below for its mates} called: ho hum. it looks like rain.

this set: pooh thinks. therefore he is.

this is one of a set of five called: isn't it funny how a bear loves honey?

these will all be listed in my joonbeam etsy shop asap.

i fought with the sun today, once again. i did enjoy the process from start to finish, though. this took me most of the day. interruptions included, naturally.

1.16.11 ... vintage holiday inn postcard = recipe card

again with the rainy day and inside photos. although i have to say they aren't too bad all things considered and i particularly like the one above. today i worked on my zine - still coming along and i am happy with it so far. that's important. i worked on the introduction and the recipe. while futzing around with the recipe format i got distracted (by shiny objects) and decided to remedy the unacceptable-for-an-artist condition of one of my favorite recipes being scribbled on a magazine insert. notice i do not include that atrocity in the photos. highly embarrassing. in my defense, when i make up a recipe i have to grab the nearest scrap to jot it down because my memory is kapootz. and, let's face it, i'm busy cooking. no excuse for the years between that rushed evening and today, but... you know how it goes. right?

but i set that aside for a while because i wanted to make a new recipe card somehow. couldn't decide with what but i knew it had to be extra ordinary. later, i worked on my new paper packets and while i was sorting through my stash of nifty paper ephemera, i chose a few of my favorite postcards i don't want to part with, trimmed this one into a 3 X 5 as an experimental prototype and here is the result. now i can see & enjoy the card on occasion while it serves a purpose. pretty nifty and satisfying. i cut out another half dozen and have them ready and waiting for my next favorite recipe creation.

1.1.11 ... and the kindness of strangers

a new beginning ...



i want to create and post every day this year. without any more structure than that one goal. so here we are starting together on day one.one.one one
i recently created these two recycled corner bookmarks for a kind stranger who bought a cookbook of mine. i had consigned it at a local church run thrift shop and this woman found photographs inside that looked important. she called the shop. the shop called me. i gave permission for the woman to call me. she did. she described the photos, which were vintage family snapshots. i did not believe they were mine but agreed she should send them along to me. when they arrived i was shocked to find they were, indeed, family photos including one {original} of my father at age 18 in his army uniform during world war ii. i have no idea how they wound up in that cookbook or how i missed that they were in there. but i am very glad a thoughtful stranger purchased my book. i hope she will enjoy the little thank you note, my recommendation for a favorite recipe in that volume and these kitchen-y bookmarks. i enjoy creating these and had a brainstorm yesterday... more on that another day. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart.  ox joon
