5.14.11 ... crayon resist watercolor

Img_7057

well, this was a little experiment. i am not thrilled with the result as much as i am with this adorably hilarious photo shot so i chose this one first. scout and i had fun trying out the technique. we used my new wax crayons they gave me for mother's day. oh, that's moobie, by the way. isn't he the cutest?

we went thrifting today and the giant laminated texas map and the book are two of my finds. i think i will use the map for recycled envelopes or maybe i'll have ev put it up on the wall. we'll see. that could be fun. but the book - have you seen erin brokovich? well, this book was written in 1952 and it is all about p.g. and e. fascinating, isn't it? i am looking forward to researching it on amazon.

it's not so bad now that i look at it a bit more. i like the way the lower right corner looks like a happy alligator headed toward a lily pad type thing.

sweet dreams, everyone.  thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon

4.1.11 ... creative picture display and scout's new 'do

4

i was cleaning my room today and that always leads to some rearranging and a decor shift here and there. our room is separated into two with my art room being in the back half. this kitchen rack behind our dresser doubles as a handy storage divider. there's never enough wall space for all of our favorite framed art and photos. i have no idea how this idea came to me this afternoon but it's a hoot.

a hoot that works, by golly.

and below you can see a closer look at the simple solution to my challenge.

isn't that groovy? and yesterday i gave scout a haircut so here's a very quick and spontaneous photo i snapped today of her with her new 'do ...

yesterday's unfinished magnets also got pressed this morning. here they are...

and that's all for this beautiful friday evening, my friends.

A Little Serendipity & the Pretzel Recipe

This card had some watercolor test bits. You know me and my use anything approach. Here's what I did with it. I used colored pencil and here's the resulting unplanned result. It was fun. As promised, the last photo in today's post is the soft pretzel recipe. I'd love to know if you make them and how yours turned out so I am including my signature links today. I can be reached via any of them. Enjoy!

My notes: We made 8 pretzels {vs their 6}. I will start with 1/4 c less flour next time. Grease the pan WELL. Go crazy. :) We only had kosher {coarse} salt, not actually chunky salt and they were fine. They were done in almost half the time, too. Watch them at 7-8 minutes. Like us, you may not believe how delicious something this simple can be. For anyone who did not see the pretzels yesterday, the post is on my joonbeam blog. Address below.

It's a great day for America, everybody. Yes it is.

Welcome Home

In 1994 I had three sons, 17, 14 & 11. Along came Scout. Anyone who knows me knows a crawling tot and teenage earth are not going to co~habitate in my home. Not willy nilly. Not without resistance. So I came up with this little phrase. It greeted everyone as they arrived. It worked beautifully. Then came 2000 and four pets. Pets with fur. Suffice it to say our socks would stay cleaner outside of our house. So it's been a while since I thought about that welcome sign. Just felt like making one today. Had fun with it.

It's a great day for America, everybody. Yes it is.
