4.15.11 ... miniature package fun

i did all kinds of prep work today in my art room. i was cleaning up and organizing bits of things i've saved. i had a stack of junk mail class - read bills - envelopes to recycle. i made a stack of corner bookmark blanks, note paper, circles for pins and magnets, homemade shredded packing paper and something i think is genius but i won't share it with you until i complete the project. but it's pretty cool. i also had this sale to prepare for tomorrow morning's mail and came up with this little recycled card piece. it was actually junk mail based, too. but nice paper as you can probably see. i added the little illustration and slipped it into the teeny ziploc bag. i think it is quite cute.

i hope the buyer enjoys her package. scout and i suddenly feel as though we might be coming down with a cold. bummer. we're having ginger tea in a moment. that should help. emotionally if nothing else. hope you're all well and had a beautiful friday. it's ev's birthday sunday so today began day one of birthday weekend. he's watching daybreak episodes on netflix and loving it.

3.21.11 ... a bicycle built for two and kitchen towel loops

i made this card for a vintage pin that is going to someone's friend. i hope they'll both enjoy it. i had fun with it. i used a discarded children's book, a scrap of tissue paper that i've been laughing at myself over having saved for so long - and now i am justified - and my favorite discount find mint card stock.

those of you who have been following my 2011 art every day journey have seen my towel loops before. this towel is a recent thrift find. i love it. it's extra large so i put loops on two corners so it won't hang down near mr chippy whose bowl is close to the fridge hook. i decided to cover the loops this time so i rummaged through my clothes tags box and spied, instead, these old mending squares i saved after they'd already saved something else for a while - until that item finally became unrepairable. i save everything. and here's the proof. anyway, i like this look. now i want to add squares to all the previous loops.

Presidential Potato Salad

You know the question 'If you could have any three people for dinner...?' Well, Lincoln is one of my choices and I am pretty sure he would love my potato salad. :) We're having BLTs tonight and I got a cabin fever craving for this. I hope you all are warm and dry this evening. Oh ~ adding a few photos from my secret valentine stash from last week. I will post a few along with my current TAD every day. Ciao!

We've always called our two boys and Valerie our Boston Baked Beans. This is the first time I have drawn these beans, though. I recycled a safety envelope bit and a lottery chad {?} I don't know if these things have a name, do you?

Catch Up

I haven't posted my Friday, Saturday and Sunday TADs because they are Valentines. I have a few others to post from the latter part of last week. Perhaps I will put them on my blog and supply a link to it here. Anyway, here are some examples of what I've been up to. This first one is actually the only Valentine I didn't send. I will be ahead for next year. :)

This one is a bookmark. I made it for Scout, my daughter. One of her nicknames is Louis and a long time ago I found this little magazine illustration of Louisiana and I cut it down to Louis and saved it. Naturally I forgot about it. One day this week I swear this bit floated across the air from somewhere on my shelves to right before me as I looked for something else. Well, the rest is a bit of a story, too, but here it is ~ views of both sides. I laminated it after I took these photos. My light is still poor. I look forward to the return of the sunshine.

This last bookmark is one I made for my husband who loves the space program. It has been laminated. I hope you all enjoy my creations. Happy Valentine's Day. Sweet dreams to all.

Welcome Home

In 1994 I had three sons, 17, 14 & 11. Along came Scout. Anyone who knows me knows a crawling tot and teenage earth are not going to co~habitate in my home. Not willy nilly. Not without resistance. So I came up with this little phrase. It greeted everyone as they arrived. It worked beautifully. Then came 2000 and four pets. Pets with fur. Suffice it to say our socks would stay cleaner outside of our house. So it's been a while since I thought about that welcome sign. Just felt like making one today. Had fun with it.

ReCycLeD InSPiRaTioN

A Retro Designer Fabric Flower
was the springboard for this letter art.

I stitched it onto a plain white 4 x 6 card
and added colored pencil elements.

It wouldn't be one of my stitch artworks
if it didn't sport one of my signature thread tails.

I carried out the color scheme to the envelope
and the handmade recycled flat magnet surprise.

The black & white & pink library card pocket
is a first. I am inspired to make more. They
will include one dozen handmade
~ recycled, of course ~
recipe cards
and will be offered in my joonwalk shop.

Hearts and Souls

It's getting ridiculous how far behind
I am on posting my creations. I have
many lately, but when I think about
blogging, I get overwhelmed. So I am
going to post short & sweet art bites.

Here's the 1st one.
I made this for Jon Cody & Val.
I had a lot of fun designing it.
And a lot of fun creating it.
Naturally, it is totally recycled art.
I love homemade cards, don't you?
