i am going to be in a spring fling fair here in austin on march 16th so i started thinking about what i want to bring. it's been over two years since my last show and i think i've only been in a handful in the past 10 years. they're not what they used to be. they've gone the way of weddings and college tuition - absurd. but this is a rare, small one and i am looking forward to it.
so today i saw my stack of old postcards and started choosing those with good graphics for slicing and got to work. these are mostly from new orleans and nearby areas. i named each bookmark and printed the names, along with my signature on the backs - after these photos were taken. i love that car and the one way sign. each one has some little piece that intrigues me.
i enjoyed messing around with different threads and strings for the tails.
i wonder how many of these places still exist? i will have to google and wiki for a while this evening. it makes me sad thinking about how wonderful these restaurants and the hotel had to be. i do hope at least one or two have survived these past 30 or 40 years since these were printed.
the reverses are just as interesting as the photographs. another activity we all enjoyed was looking at the photos through a magnifying glass. the details are incredible. who knew? these would make super miniature jigsaw puzzles. but, for now, they are repurposed into groovy, one-of-a-kind bookmarks.
sweet dreams, everyone. thanks for stopping by. until tomorrow. happiness to you. from me. with heart. ox joon
